Business Studies
In recent years programmes such as “The Apprentice”, “Dragons Den” and “Risking it All” have introduced young people to the idea of running their own business or indeed pursuing a career in business. Business Studies at GCSE level is designed to help students understand the main aspects of running or working in a business. It is designed to be topical and relevant. Students will therefore be able to relate what they study in the classroom to real life scenarios.
Course Content
The Aims, Types and Organisation of Business.
Human Resources.
This requires developing an understanding of the importance of people to a business investigating recruitment, selection and motivation of staff.
Production.
Considers product development, methods of production and the impact of technology in the modern workplace.
Marketing.
Identifying the wants of consumers and then trying to satisfy them.
Finance and Accounting.
This involves determining the performance of a company and then using the information to make decisions about what the company should do in the future.

Reasons why a student would enjoy this course
Students enjoy the mixture of delivery they experience in Business Studies. A mixture of engaging video content, group work activities and the use of ICT for research and presentation of work enhances pupils’ learning. Pupils investigate business case studies to which they can relate directly, helping them to apply the theory to real life business decisions. Industry links will be used to allow a combination of guest speakers and business visits to raise awareness of successful Northern Ireland firms.
